ABOUT THE DOCTORS
Dr. John R. Updyke
Dr. John Updyke received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Wright State University and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville. His Pediatric Dental specialty training was completed at The Ohio State University and Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he received certification in Pediatric Dentistry. He has been practicing Pediatric Dentistry in Austin since 1976.
Dr. Updyke’s professional affiliations include the American and Texas Dental Associations, Capital Area Dental Society and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Updyke has a special interest in early treatment of orthodontic problems and cosmetic dentistry for children. He is President and owner of Dental Innovators, the only dental lab set up exclusively for children.
Dr. Roel Gonzalez
Dr. Roel Gonzalez is from Edinburg, TX. He attended The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg for his undergraduate studies. In 1999 he attended The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and received his dental degree in 2003. He then joined the United States Air Force for further training at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center, Ohio. After completion of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency program in 2004, Dr. Gonzalez was assigned to Misawa Air Force Base, which is located on the east coast of Northern Japan. In 2006, Dr. Gonzalez was assigned to Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan. After 4 amazing years in The Land of the Rising Sun (sunrise can be as early as 3am in Japan), Dr. Gonzalez joined The Children’s Hospital in Colorado where he received a certification in Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Gonzalez is a pediatric dentist who truly believes in the prevention of dental problems and in educating families about healthy smiles for life. In treating patients, his philosophy is based on respecting children, yet caring for them using age-appropriate techniques and loving attention. Understanding the uniqueness of each child and identifying each family's individual needs is how Dr. Gonzalez delivers gentle dentistry and creates positive dental experiences. He is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Raquel Martuchi Jham
Dr. Raquel Martuchi Jham is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she earned her Dental Degree and practiced as a General Dentist. In the United States she worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at the University of Florida, Department of Orthodontics, in Gainesville, FL. Dr. Martuchi received her DDS degree from the University of Colorado at Denver and obtained her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Martuchi is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). She appreciates the combination of technical and psychological aspects of Pediatric Dentistry, and is a caring clinician that welcomes the opportunity to provide quality dental care to children. She is passionate about infant oral health and educating parents with preventive knowledge to keep their children healthy.
Dr. Martuchi enjoys spending time with her family and friends, jogging and traveling. Languages spoken include Portuguese and Spanish.
